How Copper Wire Pricing Works
Copper wire is priced on how much clean copper can be recovered from it. Bright bare copper – clean, uncoated, heavy-gauge wire – is the top grade and pays closest to the raw copper price.
Insulated cable is priced on its copper yield: heavy household or industrial cable holds a lot of copper and pays well, while thin data, phone and coax cable holds little and pays less per kilo.
Stripping insulation from heavy cable can lift it to a bare-copper grade, though it is not required. We weigh and assess yield on collection and quote against the daily copper market.
