Aluminium Scrap Recycling Sydney – Bulk Loads From 3 Tonnes

Aluminium is traded globally, so scrap prices move daily. These are the factors that set the rate for your load:

• The LME aluminium price. Aluminium is priced in US dollars on the London Metal Exchange, so both the LME price and the AUD/USD exchange rate flow through to local scrap rates.
• Alloy family. Wrought grades such as extrusion and sheet are worth more than cast, and mixing the two pulls the whole load down to the cast rate.
• Attachments. Steel screws, glass, rubber seals and plastic thermal-break strips all reduce the rate, and steel is the most costly contaminant.
• Coatings and condition. Paint, powder coat, oil and moisture lower recovery during remelting.
• Volume and consistency. Large, regular loads of one grade are cheaper to process and are priced accordingly.

• Use a magnet. Aluminium is non-magnetic. Anything a magnet sticks to is steel or has steel attached and should be separated.
• Keep extrusion and cast apart. Window frames and sheet in one pile, engine parts and castings in another.
• Strip window frames. Remove glass, rubber seals, steel screws, hinges and locks. Cut out thermal-break strips where practical.
• Prepare wheels. Remove tyres, valve stems, balance weights and any steel inserts.
• Keep cans and turnings dry. Bag or bale cans free of rubbish, and drain oil and coolant from turnings.
• Leave out hazardous items. Pressurised aerosol cans, gas bottles and batteries must not be mixed into an aluminium load.
• Have your details ready. NSW law requires us to record seller identification for every purchase, so have photo ID and your business details on hand.

Aluminium can be recycled over and over without losing its properties, and remelting scrap takes only around 5% of the energy needed to produce new aluminium from bauxite ore. Once collected, your aluminium is sorted by grade and consolidated, then sent to licensed downstream processors where it is remelted into new extrusion billet, sheet and castings. Clean, well-sorted scrap goes straight back into high-value products such as building sections and vehicle parts.
