A scrap engine is a mix of metals, and its value is based on what is inside – mainly cast iron or aluminium, plus steel, with copper in the alternator and starter.Aluminium engines are worth more than cast-iron engines by weight, while copper-bearing parts such as alternators and starters generally pay the most per kilo.A complete engine is priced as a mixed unit.
